Blake Siewert announces...
The Door County Children's Choir Year Two
"The underlying goal is to encourage life-long learning and the enjoyment of music."

September 15, 2002
by Stephen Kastner

SISTER BAY, WI - Blake Siewert made some grand promises when he set forth to create the Door County Children's Choir a year ago. The most amazing thing is that he accomplished them all and much more. Working with untrained students from the ages of 7 to 14, Blake and accompanist Kim LaRae Larson created an exciting and completely harmonious musical performing troupe.

Blake and Kim practiced with over 25 enthusiastic young singers each week in Egg Harbor beginning last October 2001. Not only did they blend and train the unskilled voices of the children, they managed to have fun, and produced several significant concerts.

In their debut public performance the Door County Children's Choir shared the stage and spotlight with the world-famous Chicago Children's Choir. Blake intended for his students to experience a sense of their own achievement while getting to meet and work with a world-famous children's choir.

"We provide opportunities for musical expression, personal growth and development in a very supportive and joyful environment," says Siewert. "The primary goal in creating this choir is to provide an advanced choral experience for young singers from the 2nd through 8th grades - to develop their natural childhood singing voices, and to compliment musical training offered in public and private schools' music programs."

The Door County Children's Choir enters it's second year this fall with plans to meet and practice again in Egg Harbor, a convenient central location, starting in October. Newcomers to the choir are welcome and encouraged to join in the fun, share the teamwork and take pride in the end results… (along with a very enthused body of parents).

Door County Children's Choir is a division of the Door County School of Performing Arts whose mission is "to provide dynamic adventures in the performing arts". Blake brings a great deal of experience and success to the school and choir he founded including having worked with thousands of singers, actors and musicians over the years, He is most proud of having been the founder and former director of the Green Bay Girl's Choir, Choir Master for the First Presbyterian Church in Green Bay, and Artistic Director of Children's Arts Programs for a highly regarded performing arts school serving the greater Green Bay area. Blake also taught K-8 general and choral music in the Door and Algoma County parochial school system.
