FISH CREEK, WI - Photography is a respected and demanding art form that offers opportunity in both the worlds of journalism and art. These dual approaches to a variety of environmental themes are represented in “Eye On Nature”, the latest exhibition at Peninsula Art School’s Guenzel Gallery.

“Eye On Nature” runs from December 12, 2003 to January 25, 2004. The exhibit features works by members of the PAS Photography Co-op, an organized group of professional and amateur photographers that meets regularly at the school to share ideas, extend support and share their love of photography.

“Eye On Nature” will be highlighted by an artist reception held from 5-7 PM on Saturday, December 13. Three awards of excellence will be presented by exhibition jurors Jeanee and Brian Linden of Linden’s of Ellison Bay. In addition, the reception will feature wine, snacks, and the opportunity to chat with the artists.

To participate in "Eye On Nature", PAS Photography Co-op members were asked to present up to fifteen works based on a variety of environmental themes including fruition, preservation, inspiration and destruction. In providing the photographic documentation surrounding these issues the artists will have also examined their own attitudes and responsibilities, both as photographers and as members of our community.

The Peninsula Art School Photography Co-op was founded the summer of 1999 and since has grown into a strong and focused membership which includes professional photographers and PAS Faculty members, hobby artists and retirees, PAS students, and up-and-coming young artists. The group is cohesive in their love of photography and through their mission to actively support and nurture positive growth in individual members and as a group.

"Eye on Nature" is the second in a series of six community-based exhibitions in the school’s Guenzel Gallery. This schedule reflects an effort by the school to encourage community input and to provide opportunities for emerging and non-professional artists to exhibit their work. Upcoming community-based exhibitions include On Site, featuring works by PAS students, faculty, volunteers and staff; Works/Words: the Stuff Our Lives are Made Of, featuring the Door County Art League; and the popular “Open to Everyone” Gallery Salon.

The Guenzel Gallery exhibition schedule is determined over a year in advance through the combined efforts of a volunteer-driven Gallery Committee and PAS Staff. Exhibition ideas are always welcome and may be directed to the PAS staff for consideration by the Committee.

Information regarding the PAS Photography Co-op, exhibition opportunities in the Guenzel Gallery and other PAS programs is available on-line or by contacting the school’s office at 920.868.3455 or email staff@peninsulaartschool.com. The office is open 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday through Saturday.
