Gallery Ten Opens 2004 Season with Architectural Art and
Digital Infrared Nature Photography
April 19, 2004
by Steve Kastner
GILLS ROCK, WI - Gordon
Bowie of Boise, Idaho and Yvonne Marie Ferguson of New Brighton, Minnesota are the first of the season's featured
guest artists exhibiting at Charlene's
Gallery Ten in Gills Rock. On
Saturday, May 1 you are invited to meet them at a wine and cheese reception from 5 - 7 PM.
Their work will be on display through June 11.
Gordon Bowie's
interest in photography began in 1966 when he bought a Polaroid camera, and thought to himself, "If Polaroid
can develop film, so can I!"
He pursued formal training with the Professional Photographers of America - PPA Winona, Rochester Institute of
Photography, Ray Vogue Photographic School, New York Institute of Photography, and numerous digital courses at
the University of Chicago. His influential instructors include Bruce Barnbaum, Ray McSaveney, Dan Anderson and
John Sexton - to name a few.

Bowie explains, "It was Sexton that taught me how to put true meaning
and expression into a black and white print."
His professional career in photography, as a staff photographer for the University of Chicago, covered 37 years,
after which he relocated to Boise, Idaho to enjoy photographing the powerful landscapes.
His days are now filled with searching for and finding beauty in his natural surroundings and then capturing it
on film to be remembered forever. His work encompasses many different venues-- from vast landscapes to a simple
flower-- from traditional to abstract.
Yvonne Marie Ferguson
is proud to consider herself an "outsider," an artist with no professional training. But even back in
grade school she knew that she could draw.
"In 4th grade I was disqualified from an art contest because my teacher said that it was impossible for a
4th grader to enter this quality of artwork," she recalls.
But, when Yvonne first visited Gallery Ten in September of 2002 she was immediately recognized as an amazing new
talent!
Tina Ferguson, Yvonne's daughter remembers her mother's creativity while growing up, "She was always sewing
artsy clothes, making 3-D birthday cakes, and helping make glued noodle drawings, finger paintings and crayon masterpieces."
After a life-threatening illness challenged her, Yvonne took to a greater exploration of her fine art talents.
| She began to create architectural facades, three-dimensional fronts of
buildings, framed as pieces of art. |
|
In 2002 a watercolor class at The Clearing in Ellison Bay encouraged
her to explore miniature watercolor paintings, resulting in her recent love for painting miniatures of buildings…
all under the influence of Tina, who grew up to become a professional
architect.
In addition to the two featured guest artist solo shows, Charlene's Gallery Ten represents the work of over 100
artists, a gallery collection that is contemporary, original and eclectic. GT Coffee, complements the gallery,
serving espresso drinks and Bea's ho-made pie-by-the-slice daily from 7:30 AM to 5 PM. The gallery is open daily
