Charlene's Gallery Ten celebrates twenty years in…
"10 by 10 by 10"

Artists' reception Saturday, May 27 from 5 - 7 PM

GILLS ROCK, WI - Charlene Berg has reason to celebrate the powers of ten. To launch her tenth anniversary season in Gills Rock she sent out a challenge to the over 100 artists that she represents at her gallery.

"I asked each of them to create one original work specifically for this anniversary show," says Charlene. "They could work in either two or three dimensions, but the results must be no larger than 10 inches in any direction."

Their response, the "10 by 10 by 10" exhibit, might be mistaken as a show of admiration for Charlene Berg, as sixty-two of "her artists" responded by delivering a dedicated original work. Gallery Ten will toast them all on
Saturday, May 27 from 5 - 7 PM with a very special reception. Champagne corks will pop. Hors d' oeuvres and other delicacies created by Egg Harbor's Kitchen Maven, Shoshanah Kaiser will be served. And conversation will abound as memories are rekindled.
It was twenty years ago in Rockford, Illinois that Charlene Berg launched her original Gallery Ten.

"There were a number of amateur and professional artists living and working in the region, but not one single art gallery in all of Rockford, a fairly large city even back then in Illinois," explains Charlene. "All of them wanted a place to exhibit. Ten of them decided to launch Gallery Ten under my direction, thus the name."

Charlene chuckles as she recalls that one of them was a graphic artist who liked the looks of Gallery X… a logo that was rapidly replaced as folks in Rockford mistook their intentions. Ten years ago Charlene and her husband Dewey migrated to Gills Rock and brought the existing name and "notoriety" with them, opening a new Gallery Ten in Door County.

"10 by 10 by 10" is a recap of all that Gallery Ten has come to represent, artists working in styles that range from traditional to modern in all dimensions and media.
The exhibit runs currently through June 9.

"Without the artists over the years, Gallery Ten simply would not exist. They are why I am what I am," says Charlene. "I am looking forward to thanking them for coming through for me."

The 2006 season will follow with "Quiet Interference" from June 10 to July 14 - a show dedicated to the late Susan Scully, an artist and dear friend of Berg's and featured painter Barbara Grant of Whitewater. Grant's oils on canvas will join those of Jennifer Lee, one of four Peninsula Art School Emerging Artist honored in 2006.

From July 15 to August 18 photo-surrealist Randy Richmond will be featured in a special exhibit to benefit the Door County Land Trust. Joining him will be Cynthia DeLaMer, an art doll maker whose works will be commemorated by poet Karen Corekin. Watch for a special performance event featuring a reading by Corekin to complement the dolls on display.

"Going Home," running from August 19 to September 22 will feature Johanna Gullick's oils on canvas accompanied by a collection of unusual natural seed bead mosaics by Claudia Rohling.

From September 23 to October 27 "Soulful Evolution" will celebrate variations in fiber. Molly Groshek's multi-media collages will be featured alongside the works of Una Ryan, using vintage kimono fabrics and beads in her creations.

On Labor Day Weekend, September 2 and 3, Charlene's Gallery Ten will host the Sixth Annual Artfest, a live outdoor creation festival. Celebrate the changing colors with a trip to the tip of the Door… September 29, 30 and October 1 as the Gills Rock Artisans host the Second Annual GREAT Days Art Tour.

Charlene's Gallery Ten represents over 100 artists in a gallery collection that is contemporary, original and eclectic. GT Coffee, complements the gallery, serving espresso drinks and Door County cherry pie by-the-slice daily from 8 AM to 5 PM. The gallery is open daily from 10 AM to 5 PM at 12625 Hwy. 42 in Gills Rock, Wisconsin. Telephone 920.854.9907 for further information or visit on-line at www.GalleryTen.com.
