Door County visitors and
residents alike have an unusual variety of opportunities available the
year 'round at the following "schools of know-how." These learning
centers provide a chance to gather experience and interact with some
extremely knowledgeable and exciting expert teachers who just happen to
work in one of the most beautiful spots on earth...
"Door
County was aglow with autumn colors while I spent a week studying
photography on the wooded campus of the Clearing," says Beth Gauper, who
writes about regional travel for the Pioneer Press.
Courses
focus on science, sports, history, music, theater, film, philosophy,
creative writing, nature and religion as well as a wide variety of
hands-on art classes. They range in length from a few hours to a

Each summer Kathy Navis of Junction Center Yoga Studio and David Rack, kayak
eco-guide with Door County Kayak Tours partner to
provide yoga and kayak tours of Door County. They invite
you to kayak to a secluded beach somewhere on the peninsula, do a yoga
practice to help open and release those areas of the body which are
utilized for kayaking and then continue the tour - for more info

Björklunden is a
425-acre estate
on the Lake
Michigan shore just south of Baileys Harbor bequeathed to Lawrence
University in 1963 by Donald and Winifred Boynton. |

Clearing
is
an adult school of discovery in the arts, nature, and humanities
located on a high bluff above the waters of Green Bay in Ellison Bay,

Crossroads
at Big Creek
The
John and Helen Collins Learning Center at the Crossroads provides life
long learning experiences for all ages. The Crossroads also has a
naturalist and a system of public trails, groomed ski trails and
snowshoe trails - always free and open around the clock. |

nature programs including public viewing nights at the Everson
Observatory occur throughout the year. The Door County Historical
Society's Historical Village features several restored buildings onsite. |

School of Performing Arts under the

the Door County Children's Choir, the Door County Children's Theatre
and provides private voice and keyboard instruction.

Door County
Sail & Power Squadron specializes in boating
education. Each year they sponsor classes for the general
public including a GPS seminar and a series called Boat Smart®. Members
may select from a wider array including courses on seamanship and
navigation, marine-oriented electives and home-study guides. |

Ephraim
Sailing Center is where
to go for a quick sailing lesson. Sailboat
rental is at South Shore Pier across from Wilson’s on Wisconsin 42,
open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Renting a 15-foot sailboat is $60 for two
hours, $15 for each additional hour. Lessons are $95 for two hours
including the boat, and $15 for each additional person. Call

Ephraim
Yacht Club is a
members-only club, but provides lessons. An adult individual or family
membership is $100, with an additional $100 first-time fee. |
| Members get
free use of all club boats after a test of competency. A refresher
course is free, private lessons are $35 an hour for individuals or $50

Hands on
Art Studio invites
fledgling artists to try their hand at ceramics, glass-fusing, clay
sculpture, mosaic tiling, a new metal studio buffet and more. Painters
have a choice of artistic canvases: ceramics, metal, t-shirts, wood or

Sanctuary in Baileys
Harbor provides an ongoing series of hikes, workshops and seminars throughout
the year, led by educator-naturalists at the Ridges Center in Baileys
Harbor. In summer they also feature half-day programs for children age
4 through 6th grade.
