"We did it!" Mike Burda emerges
with a grin.

I look at Rowan Kastner still in his warm red parka and ask if he wants to go in.
He looks at me like I am crazy. "Rowan, we aren't going to loll about, let's just jump in and jump out."
I am amazed as he agrees. We shed our warm layers, put on footwear and make our way out into the water. |

Special thanks to... Tim Bley, Adam Bley,
Aaron LeClair and Chuck Ploor, the men in red who watch over us.
We are official Polar Bears! |
|
And, a very special thanks to Calamity Sam who knows how to make sanity out of mayhem...
He comes prepared with a cooler chest full of hot water, which my kids stand in, and then dunk their hands in,
while wearing their parkas.

| As we are leaving and they are starting to grumble, I spot a warm truck running near
entry point - with the door unlocked. Rowan and Isabel are happily tucked inside. Meanwhile, Sue Jarosh informs
me that she has given out all of the preprinted certificates of attendance - over 600 swimmers!!! Make that 603. |

ADDENDUM
No follow-up problems to report here except:
- My wife will not forgive me for not thinking to take pictures of the kids in
the water.
- After seeing the bikini-clad beauties she does not believe my excuse, that I
was more concerned with getting the little troupe dried off and warmed up.
- She didn't ask about any pictures of me in the water.
- Isabel refuses to take off the t-shirt (three days later).
