JACKSONPORT, WI - It is the year of
"increased responsibility". Perhaps it is the weather, approximately ten degrees colder this New Year's
Day that makes it seem a bit more serious than last year's swim. Cameras are freezing up. People remain clothed
against the elements. |
"We have over 500 Polar Bears and about 2000 spectators."
Sue Jarosh reports.
This makes it challenging to get through the crowd and down to the actual water's edge. |
|
|
 |
The conditions are sunny but winter has been more harsh overall
this year. It came on sooner and with much more ferocity. A formidable ice shelf now stands between the swimmers
and the water. |
|
| But JR Jarosh (above) planned ahead and provides a set of wooden
steps for swimmers to get safely down to the water. |

 |
Sue Jarosh gave the Jacksonport Fire Dept. $1000 last year from
t-shirt sales after expenses and hopes to do this again if she gets more orders. |
