JACKSONPORT, WI - Beach access conditions are much improved
over last year - walk run, or crawl on bare sand! Last
year's cold temperatures created a severe ice shelf on the Lake Michigan
shoreline forcing the construction and installation of a set of temporary wooden stairs.
Not so this year - warm weather and "balmy" 32 degree air and water temperature beckon a record turnout. |

Before and/or after the plunge an ice-cooler filled with hot water saves
toes and temperaments. |
|
| Over 500 hearty soles hit the water at Noon. |

Only 6 months 'til summer - you might never know from the picture alone
that this is January 1, 2002. |
|
| ...and only another 364 days remain until the 17th annual event. J. R. Jarosh, the founder and
first member of the Jacksonport Polar Bear Club has taken a dip in the icy waters of Lake Michigan each year since
1986. |
