Jacksonport Polar Bears 2002
January 1, 2002
by Stephen Kastner

JACKSONPORT, WI - Beach access conditions are much improved over last year - walk run, or crawl on bare sand! Last year's cold temperatures created a severe ice shelf on the Lake Michigan shoreline forcing the construction and installation of a set of temporary wooden stairs.

Not so this year - warm weather and "balmy" 32 degree air and water temperature beckon a record turnout.

Before and/or after the plunge an ice-cooler filled with hot water saves toes and temperaments.
Over 500 hearty soles hit the water at Noon.

Only 6 months 'til summer - you might never know from the picture alone that this is January 1, 2002.
...and only another 364 days remain until the 17th annual event. J. R. Jarosh, the founder and first member of the Jacksonport Polar Bear Club has taken a dip in the icy waters of Lake Michigan each year since 1986.

Anyone wishing to order a long-sleeved, 2002 Polar Bear shirt with the official JPBC logo may do so by contacting Sue Jarosh at 319-583-8555 or email sujojarosh@aol.com. Cost is $10 for childrens 10/12 or 14/16 and $15 for Adult S, M, L, XL and $17 for the XXL.

Postage is $3.50 for one shirt and $3.95 for two. The shipping charges must be added in with shirt prices for all orders.
