Jim Hinnenthal skating on Sunday, January 15 in Pen Park

Door County Nordic ski news, trail maps, events and current trail conditions

January, 16, 2006
OK, this may sound more like a fisherman's tale... but for the last two days I have been skiing in Pen Park along with a number of others in-the-know - and the snow conditions are surprisingly good. It seems that park staffers have decided to exercise their new grooming equipment under the worst of conditions, learning to make the most with the least... and the results are impressive.

Here's a snapshot of the trail groomer's map showing where they have been testing out their new gear...

Park your car at the Blossomburg Cemetery or on the opposite end, at the Golf Course Maintenance Shed to see for yourself, but be forewarned - this is a groomed skating trail with a climb up the bluff to Sven's Peak.

The only thing I can find to complain about is the icy park roads... so be careful!
