Peninsula Chamber Singers Winter 2003 Concerts
December 7, 2003
by Steve Kastner
The Peninsula Chamber Singers, under the direction of Don
Richter, will provide the general public with two opportunities
to enjoy their Winter 2003 Concert this year. At 7 PM on Saturday,
December 13 they will sing a diverse collection of seasonal works
at the United Methodist Church, 836 Michigan Street in Sturgeon Bay. On Sunday,
December 14 they will perform again at the Door Community Auditorium
in Fish Creek at 3 PM.
The concert program entitled, "What Child is this?" features a wide variety of musical selections from
classical works like Rachmaninoff's Ave Maria, to Christmas pops like a Jack Rollins arrangement of Frosty
the Snowman. Director Don Richter intends to spread his enthusiasm
for choral singing to the entire audience with a sing-a-long, Christmas
Alleluia's arranged by Don Wyrtzen.
Old Toy Trains,
a Roger Miller tune, will be included in an arrangement by Merle Colburn, Chairman of the Peninsula Chamber Singers.
Other works include: Salvation is Created
by Tschesnokoff; Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming by Distler; A Candlelight Christmas by Benjamin Harlan; Night of
Silence by Dan Kantor and arranged by John Ferguson; Tollite Hostias by Camille Saint-Saens,
arranged by Linda Mulder; The Poverty Carol
arranged by Wilbur Skeels and of course the concert title song, What
Child is This? by John Leavitt.
The concerts are free and feature over 50 member voices. Now in their 26th year, the Peninsula Chamber Singers
perform an annual Winter Concert at two locations and another set of concerts in the Spring. Each concert also
features the Door Men, an octet of male singers whose bright, smart performances are a highlight of every engagement.
