Anderson, White and Marks acoustic concert at TAP |
May 25, 2005
by Judy Drew
STURGEON BAY, WI - Al
Anderson and Jean White are both performers who are regularly seen in Door County coffee houses and resorts. Although
they play together at other venues, Friday, June 3, at 7:30 PM, marks their first appearance together at Third
Avenue Playhouse.
Anderson is a man of many talents. Door County has long been the beneficiary of his talent in art and music. In
the early sixties, he played guitar and performed with bands in the Chicago and Calumet City areas but once he
married and started a family he set his music aside and embraced a successful art career. As a professional artist
who studied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, he worked in the city doing commissioned artwork until retiring
to Door County in 1992.
Encouraged by his wife, Rose, as well as by friends and family, Anderson picked up his guitar once again and returned
to performing in the Sturgeon Bay area. His mellow vocals continue to deliver whether in pop standards, jazz classics
or his own original works. Al's visual arts are also on display throughout the county and can currently be seen
at the Fairfield Gallery.
Jean White is an accomplished singer-songwriter who released her first CD, Jean's Songs, in 1999 and performs whenever
she gets the chance. When asked to describe her music, White says that, as a young girl, she was influenced by
the music her mother used to play - Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Nat King Cole. Later came artists like James
Taylor, Joni Mitchell, the Beatles and Seals and Croft. Her style has evolved to an interesting blend of jazz and
pop. White has lived in Sturgeon Bay since 1997. She has two sons and says both are musical.
