Corky Siegel's Chamber Blues Workshop
with the Peninsula Music Festival Youth Strings Orchestra
February 24, 2000
by Stephen Kastner
STURGEON BAY, WI - "One day the Blues met Classical...
they fell in love, and got married!"
That's how Corky explains it to students in the Peninsula Music Festival Youth Strings Orchestra who assembled for a very special practice on Thursday evening. Corky's Workshop
opens with an introduction of the band members and a comparison of two seemingly divergent styles of music. He
and band members then demonstrate the marriage of Blues and Classical in some very energetic and intoxicating performance
pieces.
The rich tones and textures of a highly proficient string ensemble blend seamlessly with the sensuous strains coming
from Corky's mouth harp. Backed and supported by Frank Donaldson's eastern percussion beats on tabla, this group succeeds in creating a new flavor of their own. |
