Corky Siegel's
Chamber Blues Workshop

After the introductory explanation, and a short performance, the band members go out and take seats among the students in the orchestra, and join in the rehearsal. Mark Agnor is seen playing here with members of the Peninsula Music Festival Youth Strings Orchestra.

Corky takes a moment to explain, through a verbal poem-like performance, the meaning of the various terms used to describe dynamic range in classical music. He then asks students and band members to solo, playing any favorite piece. Corky asks them to play it softer, and softer yet, and then to play it forcefully. He explains that this variable is their dynamic range.

Finally, he asks each performer to play the same piece once again varying the dynamics in order to build in greater emotional content. This, he explains, is the key ingredient that makes music three dimensional. Jeff Yang demonstrates.
Cellists of all ages and abilities have much to share with each other. Jill Kaeding is seen here with Peninsula Youth String players.
